Kind Words from the Heart

We recently received a kind letter of appreciation from a former guest in our safe house. We would like to share some excerpts from the letter, so you can read about the impact that our employees make on those that have been affected by domestic violence. We are changing lives one by one and moving towards our goal to end the cycle of abuse, thanks to the support of our community.

"I know that you all know you do help us, but I don't think that you truly realize just how much help you do freely give. All the physical, mental (and for me and many, many more women) the emotional heavy weight is lifted...and for me, one of the greatest gifts Marjaree Mason has given me is freedom. Today, I am sitting in my own apartment and I no longer cringe when I hear a knock, not a bang, but a knock on the door. In the afternoon, at the end of each day, I can lay my head down and know that there is no fight or argument ahead of me. And in the morning, which is the most precious time for me, I wake up rested. It's quiet and peaceful."

"Today I love my days, I love my life and it's ALL thanks to first the grace and mercy of my mighty God and the hand of Marjaree Mason Center and staff."

"I also want to mention that Marjaree Mason Center is not only a place of refuge, but also a place of learning. The classes are great. There is one very, very special class that taught me most of the things I carry with me today and use most days. The class is Healthy Lifestyles. Eunice - if you are reading this, you need to know you start your class with a much needed calming and relaxing voice, and the music that you play in the background puts us in a place of safety and serenity."

"Yvonne - thank you for realizing and understanding that I have a learning disability. That I don't understand the most simple things that a normal person would. You took your time to explain things to me until I did understand it which was 2, 3 times and you did it patiently. You never made me feel rushed out of your office or stupid."

"How can I ever forget the fashionable Deborah? I thank you so very much...I had so many questions about why the rules didn't apply to everyone. You took the time to sit down with me in your office and explain to me that the rules do apply to everyone, but there are some cases that need special attention. You said to me that there are some people that were not taught how to show love or just basic respect for everyone, and then you said "if a person was not taught, then how can they teach?" When you said that, a light went on in my head, and I totally understood. I use that lesson today in my life when I come across certain people."
