Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP) Facilitator

Type:                    Part-Time (Under 30 hours per week)

Status:                  Non-Exempt

Manager Title:     Life Transition Program Manager

Hours of Work:    Primarily morning hours; opportunities for evening and weekend hours, as needed

SUMMARY:  To facilitate group sessions for the Batterer’s Intervention Program (BIP) of MMC’s Life Transition Program (LTP).  The facilitator will provide group (and possibly individual) psychoeducational sessions following a standardized format, to confront abusive behavior and address the issues underlying partner and family abuse.  The areas of instruction include, but are not limited to, anger management, healthy communication, power and control, cycle of violence, sex role stereotyping, healthy parenting, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Implement batterer’s treatment curriculum for clients referred by the court system, probation, and other contracted partners.

  • Attend group facilitator trainings and inservices.

  • Prepare/maintain client records, group sign-in sheets and progress reports for timely dissemination (no later than the 15th of the month).

  • Cross-train for program intakes, Domestic Violence Inventories, and administrative duties, and provide coverage if needed.

  • Safeguard clients’ safety, security and confidentiality (including client records).

  • Utilize principles of Trauma Informed Care in all interactions with clients, staff, and constituents.

  • Safeguard assets of the MMC.

  • Work as a team and support the mission and goals of the agency and programs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of 48-hour BIP Training Requirements as outlined in Penal Code 1203.098.

  • BS/MA/MS degree in a human services field (Social Work, Counseling, Mediation, etc.),  preferred (BIP Facilitation experience may substitute for degree).

  • Ability and skill to deliver psychoeducational material and facilitate groups

  • Ability, skill, and judgement to evaluate risk for future violence.

  • Proven, excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read analyze, and interpret, in English, professional journals or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, and the general public.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid BIP Facilitator certification

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license

  • Proof of liability insurance on personal auto.Must be insurable at all times at standard rate by MMC insurance carrier.

  • Must successfully pass a background, drug and tuberculosis test.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to understand the needs of offenders and survivors of domestic violence, and a willingness to address their needs with action designed to create change.

  • Sensitivity to issues pertaining to domestic violence, particularly security issues.

  • Ability to work competently and without discrimination towards peoples of diverse cultures, races/ethnicities, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, physical/mental challenges/ disabilities and sexual orientation.

  • Ability to adjust focus – (ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus.).

  • Close Vision – (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
