Accountant

Type:                            Regular, Full-Time

Status:                          Non-Exempt

Reports to:                   Director of Finance

Work Schedule:         Monday-Friday

 

SUMMARY:              The Accountant  position is primarily responsible for accounts receivable, fixed assets and the general ledger. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance, performs general accounting functions, maintains proper accounting records, and other related duties in daily administration of accounting department. May also include grants accounting.

  • Maintains general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, accounts analysis and reconciliation, closing books monthly, and setting up new accounts.

  • Performs bank reconciliation monthly, verifies all deposits and proper coding to accounts.

  • Monitors accounts receivables collection from individuals and/or institutions and reconciles customer accounts.

  • Assists Director of Finance with accounting records required by outside auditors at year-end annual audit or monitoring audit performed by funding agencies to include preparing schedules and invoices.

  • Maintains records of all financial documents with appropriate supporting material. Updates records as necessary.

  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements to include preparation of monthly balance sheet, income statement, report on changes in financial position/budget variances for preparation to the Board of Directors and various stakeholders.

  • Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedule.

  • Data entry as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Knowledge of the basic methods, terminology and practices of GAAP.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment, including filing systems.

  • Ability to process and maintain financial and statistical records

  • Ability to make accurate math calculations

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to create and maintain computer spreadsheets

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of assigned duties

  • Knowledge of MMC’s policies and procedures

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S Degree in Accounting preferred.

  • Three (3) to five (5) years' accounting experience plus knowledge of computerized accounting system, ability to work with detail, and good organizational skills.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of liability insurance on personal auto.Must be insurable at all times at standard rate set by MMC insurance carrier.

  • Must pass tuberculosis test, drug test and fingerprinting test.
